During Sturgis' Bike Rally we try to escape the craziness each year. This year we are back in northern Illinois to visit family, friends, and my 40th high school reunion. OK. Now you know how old I am.
I'm a lucky gal. I can read, write, knit, and draw in a moving car without getting sick. Our trip normally takes us 2 days of driving. By the 2nd day, my audio book, Candy Crush, and the endless fields of corn no longer has much entertainment value.
With my handy dandy variety of Micron pens, I created this zentangle design with a zinnia theme in mind. The only issue while sketching was the rather inconsistent bumps that kept incurring on the drive. The only way to stave off frustrating mishaps with the pen, was to use it as a design challenge.
During a lunch stop at Steak 'N Shake in Iowa, I added watercolor to give it more interest. The waitress was very sweet and offered me paper towels and paint water.
I finished the painting yesterday afternoon AND THEN started something fun. The piece below was just a matter of dripping blobs of watercolor on the paper, smearing it around some and then adding a lot of pen work.
This painting only took a few hours because it was so hot and humid, doing anything outdoors was just silly talk.
