It happens every once in awhile. Okay, a lot. When promoting events for theater or live concerts, high-resolution images are needed for print materials and for print media.
It amazes be how many folks do not understand the difference between low-resolution and high-resolution images. I guess I shouldn't let it bother me. How many times has my web developer, significant other tried to explain certain geek terms to me over and over? Plenty. It still makes my eyes glaze over.
Anyway, for this concert poster for the 39th Festival in the Park in Spearfish, SD, I was repeatedly sent very low-res photos. I'm still waiting for something good to send with my press release, but I needed to get a concert poster developed.
I decided to go with one of their photos that showed a lot of the band's fun personality. After enlarging it to fit in an 11x17 poster, you can imagine how grainy it became. Here's the what I started with:
So after some slicing, desaturation, dry brushing, and posterization, it became more of a fun, funky, gritty type of look. Hopefully, this poster will convey The Weathered Heads personality. By the way, they're pretty awesome.
