For the last two studio sessions, I've gone to a more illustrative form of painting. This particular painting is of a path leading up to the top of Crow Peak mountain in Spearfish, SD. It's an 24" x 12" acrylic on cradled gessobord. It is listed in both my Landscape and Illustration categories of my website.
I started this last week and finished it on Saturday. The summer heat is on full blast right now and the idea of outdoor stuff was a bit overwhelming. So, I set up in my air conditioned studio and played. I like this type of painting right now. Fun and whimsical.

Here's a sketch of some of my garden zinnias. This only took about 30 minutes. I'll probably do a larger scale of this sketch soon.
