"Leaning on Bear Butte," 24" x 18", oil on board
Today I finished another piece in my series of paintings representing scenes from Bear Butte just outside of Sturgis, SD. Previous posts explain the history and meaning of this sacred place.
This painting shows another tree with prayer cloths tied to it. Most of the trees along the walking path have the cloths tied in the branches. This work will be on display and for sale at The Matthews Opera House & Arts Center. Link to the gallery is in the next paragraph.
Studio Dog: FRANK
I started this painting as a demonstration while being an artist in residence at the
and the Lodge have combined efforts to promote the arts of the Black Hills with the many visitors who stay at the Lodge during the busy tourism season here. Every Tuesday and Sunday a different artist sets up in the lobby to demonstrate their talents and hopefully sell some of their work. My next demo date is next Sunday, 7/7 between 3pm-7pm. It's a good thing.
Once I get off the computer, I'll start a 24x36 canvas with my 3rd Bear Butte piece.
